breaking bad and what i wore

Breaking Bad comes back this weekend. On Sunday, Aug. 11, we will begin the final episodes. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. I missed the boat on a lot of television until it was over. I love that I am watching this in real time and experiencing it with everyone else. People are buzzing, and I’m having a great time getting caught up in the excitement.

I was lucky to get tickets to a Breaking Bad panel last week at Lincoln Center, where I watched episodes that the cast chose, and then sat for a Q&A with some of the actors and the show’s creator Vince Gilligan.

To say it was fun and interesting would be like calling Breaking Bad mildly exciting.

Some of the best things I learned:

  • The cast gets email reminders not to spill the beans on the plot.
  • The scripts for the last few episodes of each season come blacked out over major plot points. Anna Gunn said she has been in a few of the blacked out scenes, and they let her see it a few days before filming. Betsy Brandt said that in the last script of the last episode before the one airing this week, it said “Hank sits on toilet” and then everything after that was blacked out.
  • Vince Gilligan’s ego seems nonexistent. His focus is on creating the best show he can, and he loves collaboration and is open to ideas from anywhere.
  • Everyone associated with the show, as far as I can tell, is unbelievably kind, generous, talented, and gracious. Bryan Cranston stayed longer to answer more questions. Betsy Brandt and Dean Norris hung around to take pictures with fans.

And probably my favorite thing was Bryan Cranston talking about how storytelling is part of human nature. He said that from a young age, we are bringing a book to have Mom or Dad read to us, or we are asking for a bedtime story. And to be a part of telling those stories is a really incredible thing.

It was a really fun event. And this is what I wore to it.

    1. thank you! I wanted to look nice in case Aaron Paul showed up. (He didn’t, but it was still awesome!)
